MEAL PLANS DO NOT WORK LONG TERM…
–
Pro’s of meal plans:
– can be a bridge to improve your diet temporarily
– serves as a good example / template for healthy eating
– can ensure you consume enough calories & macro / micro nutrients based on your goals
Con’s of meal plans:
– allows for minimal to no flexibility
– causes an overly restrictive mindset towards foods off the “plan”
– encourages good & bad sort of mindset when it comes to food
– may be a generic meal plan not ideal for you or your goals
– does not teach long term skills & habits
–
This is how I go about nutrition with my clients & why we AVOID rigid meal plans.
Instead, a meal ‘template’ (which allows flexibility & choices) or counting macro nutrients (sometimes just calories & protein only) allows people to see the beauty of flexibility while building their foundation of solid nutrition habits- which is SO needed for long term progress & sustainability
A rigid structure with no room for going out to eat or food you like will spin you down a bad hole. This is exactly what a rigid meal plan will do for you. You may see results short term- but they will be short lived & not often something you can maintain for a lifetime.
IF YOU CANNOT SUSTAIN YOUR PLAN long term BECAUSE IT’S TOO REstrictive, you are setting yourself up for failure.
